2020 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service

Edison Woods Conservation Area Litter Clean-up and Invasive Plants Removal

When:
Monday, Jan. 20, 2020– 8:30AM - 12:30 PM
Where:
Edison Woods Conservation Area
205 Melrose Ave
Haddon Township, NJ

What:
MLK Day of Service –Trash Pick-up and Invasive Plants Removal is a volunteer event for the entire family. Dress for the weather.  You will be working around thorny plants, so wear rugged clothing you won’t care too much if it gets stuck.

Why:
Trash left in the woods can potentially harm area wildlife both in the woods and in the Edison Creek which flows into the Cooper River. Invasive plants, such as English ivy, wraps around and kills many of the trees in the park. Invasive plants:

  • negatively affect our forests, parks and open space,
  • do not provide the food source and habitat the area’s wildlife depend on, and
  • reduce plant diversity by crowding-out native species.

We provide work gloves, trash bags and hand-wipes

You provide garden pruners and large, flat bladed screw driver for pulling vines away from tree.

Waiver: A waiver will need to be signed by a responsible adult for all participants
