“A Green Amendment for Pennsylvania & the Nation” with Maya van Rossum and Franklin Kury

The Story of Pennsylvania's Article 1 Section 27 and the Promise of the Green Amendment

In the decades long fight for a cleaner environment, we’ve been fighting a losing battle. The sad truth is, our laws are designed to accommodate pollution rather than prevent it. People feel powerless when it comes to preserving the quality of their water, air, public parks, and special natural spaces. But there is a hopeful solution that could change future of environmentalism—bypass the laws that are currently failing us and turn to the ultimate authority instead: our state and federal constitutions.

In this very special event, Gettysburg College welcomes for their Environmental Studies Annual Lecture, former Deputy Attorney General and Pennsylvania State House Representative, Franklin Kury and Maya van Rossum, founder and leader of the Green Amendment Movement, for an in depth look at the history of Pennsylvania's very own Environmental Rights Amendment, its status in today's context, and its future in every state across America.

This event is sponsored by the Department of Environmental Studies, EPACC, the Eisenhower Institute, the Department of Public Policy, and the Department of Political Science of Gettysburg College.
