The Failed Economics of Fracking in Pennsylvania, a virtual presentation

The Delaware River Frack Ban and Climate Action Coalition presents Elizabeth Marx, PULP, and Sean O’Leary, ORVI

7:00pm, Wednesday, January 28

Fracking has dominated the energy economy in Pennsylvania for more than 15 years. Replacing coal as the go-to fossil fuel, the fracked gas industry has stormed the Commonwealth with devastating impacts on human health and the environment. Yet the claims by fracking’s supporters that there have been economic benefits that make all the damage worthwhile continue loud and clear, supporting a blind campaign to hyper-jump MORE fracked gas development to feed energy needs.

Join the Delaware River Frack Ban and Climate Action Coalition to examine the economic impacts of fracking based on independently researched, public impact-based facts with two experts: Elizabeth Marx, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Utility Law Project and Sean O’Leary, senior researcher at the Ohio River Valley Institute and author of “Frackalachia Update 2025”. They will share what they know about the true economics of fracking here in the Commonwealth.

Featured Speakers:

Elizabeth Marx serves as Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Utility Law Project (PULP), a statewide specialty legal services project that works to secure just and equitable access to safe and affordable utility services for low-income Pennsylvanians. Elizabeth also serves as Chair of the DHS LIHEAP Advisory Committee, the DCED Weatherization Assistance Program Policy Advisory Council, and the DEP Climate Change Advisory Committee, and is a member of the Public Utility Commission’s Consumer Advisory Council.

Sean O’Leary, senior researcher, energy and petrochemicals, at the Ohio River Valley Institute is a native of Wheeling, WV. He has written about coal, natural gas, and their role in the economies of Appalachia in a book, a newspaper column, and blog titled, “The State of My State”. Previously, Sean served as communications director at the NW Energy Coalition in Seattle, Washington. He recently authored ORVI’s “FRACKALACHIA UPDATE 2025, Data Centers & LNG Replace Petrochemicals & Hydrogen as the Natural Gas Boom’s Shiny Objects That are Destined to Disappoint”.

Tracy Carluccio, Deputy Director of Delaware Riverkeeper Network, will host the webinar for the Delaware River Frack Ban and Climate Action Coalition.
