Philly LNG Task Force Hearing

August 22, 2023

STOP “Philadelphia LNG Export Task Force” scheme!

Join us 9:00am, Tuesday, August 22, 2023 in Chester, PA

*UPDATE NOTE CHANGE OF LOCATION
Due to ongoing construction in the Weidner University Center, the taskforce hearing has been moved to Latham Hall on the Weidner University campus. Latham Hall is adjacent to the Kapelski Lot, and parking instructions for members remains unchanged. Weidner Campus Safety will be on site to direct taskforce members and the public to Latham Hall.

The industry is trying to force a liquefied natural gas “LNG” Export Terminal into Chester, PA, on the Delaware River but Zulene Mayfield and CRCQL (https://chesterpaej.org/) of Chester and all of us here in Philadelphia, Marcus Hook and all of Southeastern PA are fighting back. There is no place for any polluting and explosively dangerous LNG facility in Chester or anywhere on the Delaware River!

Some community representatives will be speaking on the panel to the Task Force at the Hearing. We need lots of people to show up at the Hearing torally at 9:00 am outside beforehand and then go in to support our community speakers.

Gather 9:00am, Tuesday, August 22;

Hearing is 10:00am to 12:00pm noon;
Widener University Chester Campus
Lathem Hall, 1301 Potter St, Chester PA, 19013

Weidner Campus Safety will be on site to direct taskforce members and the public to Latham Hall.

Our entire Delaware River Region needs to show a united front, standing shoulder to shoulder, to STOP LNG Exports! NO LNG EXPORT Terminal in Chester, NO LNG anywhere! PLEASE JOIN US!

Background:

The PA Legislature passed a bill last year, and Governor Wolf signed it into law, setting up a “Philadelphia LNG Task Force” targeting southeast PA in the Delaware River Watershed as a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export hub, regardless of the public safety and health harms of explosive and polluting LNG, the inevitable environmental damage, the already intolerably overburdened communities where this facility would go and where fracking would occur, and the exacerbation of the climate crisis with more methane emissions (LNG is liquid methane).

Two Hearings have been held by the Task Force, chaired by Representative Martina White, which have not provided opportunity for community members to speak. Virtually all speakers were handpicked by the Task Force for their bias in support of LNG Exports so far. The public protested powerfully and this Hearing is supposed to be an opportunity to have our community representatives heard by the Task Force that will be writing up a recommendations report this fall.
