There are two urgent actions you can take right now on the Camp FIMFO project application:
1.
Immediately email the Planning Board to tell them to hold a 120-day comment period, and three public hearings with 7-10 minutes for verbal comments in January on the draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for Camp FIMFO.
You can use the talking points below in your message:
We need a 120-day comment period and multiple public hearings with 7-10 minutes for verbal comments because:
- The Camp FIMFO project application is a major and highly controversial issue.
- The comment period will span all major holidays happening at the end of the year.
- There is a large amount of documentation and information that the public needs to review in order to prepare their comments.
- Everyone in the community should be able to have their thoughts fully heard.
- The Town is obligated by Article I, Section 19 of the New York State Constitution to provide each person clean air and water, and a healthful environment.
Please send your email to planningboardzba@townofhighlandny.com before the Planning Board’s meeting on Wednesday, November 20.
2.
Immediately email the Town Board urging them to put in place a moratorium on development in the River Corridor.
You can use the talking points below in your message:
The Town Board should enact a moratorium on any development within the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River in order to:
- Allow the Town to complete its update of the Comprehensive Plan.
- Bring Town ordinances into accord with the new Plan.
- Prevent new projects from undermining the new Plan and ordinances before they are finalized.
- Resolve inconsistencies or conflicting interpretations of Town ordinances.
- Protect the Delaware River that is so essential to our region.
- Honor the Town’s Comprehensive Plan process.
- Uphold the Town’s obligation under Article I, Section 19 of the New York State constitution to each person’s right to clean air and water, and a healthful environment.
