The Delaware Riverkeeper Network was instrumental in securing the current moratorium on fracking in the Delaware River watershed. Our efforts advocating for a full and permanent ban on fracking have included delivering petitions to the governors of each state in the watershed, as well as to the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC), urging them to vote for a permanent ban on fracking and related activities. In January 2019, New Jersey Governor and DRBC chair Phil Murphy announced his support for a full and complete ban on fracking, including banning water withdrawals for fracking elsewhere and banning frack waste water disposal within the Delaware River watershed. Governor Murphy is taking the lead to protect New Jersey residents, our water supply, and the Delaware River by pledging his vote for the Delaware River Basin Commission to ban fracking.
