Gillespie Park Invasive Plant Removal Days

Volunteers Needed!

The amazing goats visited the park in August and did a great job gobbling up invasive plants choking native trees & diversity!  We have a bit more clearing of invasive vines to accomplish and need your help!

Tuesday August 24 thru Thursday, August 26, 5-8pm each day.
N. Sycamore Ave, Upper Darby, PA

Join us at the park, learn about invasive plants that are threatening natural places and lend a helping hand to continue the habitat restoration work underway to restore Upper Darby’s Gillespie Park. Help cut and pull invasive plants to make room for 160 native trees and 40 native shrubs to be planted this fall!   Help restore the Darby Creek and adjacent streamside forested riparian buffer to help neighbors, wildlife, trees & the health of the beautiful Darby Creek.

Wear long sleeves and long pants and bring a pair of your favorite work gloves, pruners, hand saws and loppers if you have them.  Get a free pair of garden gloves if you volunteer. Bring along water & snacks you will need.  Tools will be available to borrow.

Partners include the Tree Tenders of Upper Darby, UD Township, Delaware Riverkeeper Network & Eastern Delaware County Stormwater Collaborative

This restoration is partly made possible through Pennsylvania Tree Vitalize and Consortium for Scientific Assistance to Watershed grants.
